Jason Ortwerth

Desmoid Tumor Patient Advocate

Jason Ortwerth was diagnosed with an mesentery desmoid tumor in 2017 at the age of 35. Born and Raised in St Louis, Jason graduated from Washington University in St Louis where he played collegiate baseball. He is currently the Midwest Division Vice President of Sales at ADP. He is the proud husband to Katie and father to their two girls, Emma (4) and Lucy (2). They are excited to welcome another baby girl in December!

Jason’s journey started just a few hours before Emma was born. He noticed a mass in his abdomen and during his wife’s final appointment asked her OBGYN to quickly take a look. Very quickly, scans determined there was a large tumor present and after a short pause to welcome Emma to the world, a biopsy was completed indicating a desmoid tumor was present. Numerous surgeries and 4 years of chemotherapy have thankfully stabilized the tumors and he is now under active surveillance. He is optimistic and hopeful that the disease will stay dormant.

The Desmoid Tumor Foundation (DTRF) has been instrumental since the start of his journey. From the information he found at his original diagnosis to the experience at his first meeting in Philadelphia, a support system was established where patients could interact with each other and stay on the forefront of new developments. Jason and Katie will be hosting the 4th Annual Swing for a Cure St Louis in September. Through the first 3 years, the event has raised over $100K for DTRF in hopes that one day a cure will be found.
