Josh Sommovilla, MD is a staff colorectal surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic. While he treats the full spectrum of colorectal disease, he has specific expertise on hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes, including familial polyposis and desmoid disease. He is originally from Philadelphia and attended Wesleyan University in Connecticut for undergraduate school, followed by medical school at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. Prior to moving to Cleveland, he trained in general surgery at Washington University in St Louis, colorectal surgery at Ochsner Clinic, and palliative medicine at the University of Wisconsin. He also completed a year of specialzed training in Cleveland prior to his full staff appointment focusing on treatment of patients with hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes. In his free time, he enjoys going for walks with his wife and dogs, exploring bike trials and the Erie lakefront, and reading.
